HOT OFF THE PRESS

After arriving back at university I wasted no time in getting back in the print room. I had already prepared 3 designs ready for my return and was determined to get them done before I got new briefs from my tutors. The Monday was spent preparing screens and trimming paper so that I could start printing first thing the day after. During the summer i had tried my hand at a bit of DIY screen printing with some new kit i got for my birthday, however it didn’t quite go to plan so i figured it best if i just use the designs at uni instead. Much to my delight the screens exposed perfectly, meaning i wouldn’t have to waste anymore time on the boring part of printing. The day after (Tuesday), I rocked up to the print room at a solid 3pm after having a fat nap. As soon as I got in to uni I began to print like mad, i managed to finish the first print (Singing Stones) the same day, this was my first time trying out pixel art in printmaking so i was really intrigued to see the outcome (after messing around trying many different colour combinations). The next day (Wednesday) I got to work on the next design (Escape), Both this and the print the day after had a bit of a deeper meaning than usual. During lockdown I became very ill and felt incredibly isolated from the world. I lived in a small village with the only company being my parents and dogs, as such whenever I was at my worse points i would picture myself in these quiet spaces with no one else around, just me and a simple, chill environment. As such the locations that came to mind were “Escape” and “Getaway”.
